Midnight Pounding
by Miss Ellie

Since Veronica Lodge took over the P-cat's contract from cheapskate extraordinaire Alexander Cabot, the Pussycats have had a lot more time to practice.

The first thing Roni did was build the Pussycat's a new house, complete with an underground practice pad/recording studio, that allowed the group to practice and record anytime of the night, without nosy neighbors hearing them.

Though nobody gave her credit for being smart, Melody was the most dedicated member when it came to getting her drum tracks right. During a particularly long day's session, the poor girl couldn't get the drum parts right for a particular song.

"Don't worry Mel, we can always try again tomorrow," Val would encourage.

Sadly, Josie was sometimes less than courteous. "Come on, Mel, you played in a Slayer cover band before this, how hard can the double bass thing be for you?"

In their nice bed, with room for all three, Val and Josie slept, while Mel was troubled with restlessness. Thankfully she slept on the left side of the bed that night, rather than the middle, and could get out and go downstairs without waking the others.

Around six in the morning, Val awoke, to find that her snuggle buddy was nowhere to be found. She woke Josie, wondering where their friend had wondered off to.

"I think you should be a bit easier on her, Josie. After all, everybody assumes I'm the tough one."

"But I'm the leader, I have to kick her in the butt from time to time, ya know?"

When they got into the rehearsal room, Melody was found asleep, hunched over her drum kit, still in her oversized t-shirt and panties.

"Wow, she is our busy little beaver, isn't she?"

"Actually," Josie paused, "she is more your beaver than mine, Val."

Val giggled, "Josie, you're terrible!"

Mel awoke to see her friends surrounding her.

"Guys, guess what? I got it! I played it right!"

"Did you remember to set up the recorder?"

Mel looked at her feet, saddened.

"Oh pooh, I knew there was something I forgot to do..."

Val and Josie hugged her.

"It's okay, I know you'll get it right today," Josie soothed.

Before the group went to cook eggs and bacon, Melody played the song again with her friends. She felt it wasn't quite as good as what she had played the night before, but it was good enough for the demo.
